New LRE data for an old school year

LRE data is always like looking in a rear view mirror. The best we can do is that in March each year the Department of Education publishes the data for the previous school year. That means that in March this year 2024 we got access to the data for the 2022-2023 school year.

Still comparing the data over five years gives us some indication of the progress being made. Often when you talk to education policy people in California they will tell you that we are making a big push for inclusion and this is going to be fixed soon. The data over five years suggests that progress might take a little longer.

For a more in depth look at the progress made please visit our new data page. The headline is: California is still fourth from the bottom and the vast majority of students with ID, MD and many Autistic students are still excluded from regular clases for most of the time.

More students with Autism are educated in spearate classrooms for most oif the school day.

We CAN do better than this - there are many other states that do better!!! In Vermont mre than 75% of students with ID spend more than 40% of their school day in a regular classroom.
